I Do (2024)

Dimensions: Variable
Medium: Video, Crepe paper on pvc pipes

Weddings are a celebration of unity, honour, devotion and love. On this special day, the giant peonies which once symbolised love and happiness have transformed into monstrous human-like beings, fasciated blooms devouring and possessing the once pure and angelic ceremony in an attempt to be seen and heard. a twisted battle of contrasting forms challenging the stereotypes of a traditional white wedding.

I Do speaks for the unsaid vows and the loss of words, a cry for approval from the ones who raised us, a struggle for acceptance by the ones we love most. Instead of the marriage between a bride and groom, it attempts to reconfigure and unify the fragments of familial ties caused by the unspoken words of affirmation and affection. The accompanying video takes the form of a wedding montage, seeking to make sense of the tainted relationship between father and daughter which develops with time and age.
